May 18 – August 25 2013 at The Living Art Museum, Reykjavík, Iceland. Artist Katrín Inga Jónsdóttir Hjördísardóttir. Curated by Gunnhildur Hauksdóttir. The exhibition’s conceptual framework can be found here.
Due to my research on the Archive of Artist Run Initiatives the previous year, Katrín invited me to make a contribution to her exhibition the 6th Volume. The exhibition’s title refers to five volume book, published by the National Gallery in 2011, reflecting on Icelandic art history. The National Gallery’s attempt to provide an art historical overview was considered a disappointment by the Icelandic art community at large. The 5th volume especially; being both defective and misrepresentative, generated a great out-roar among professional artists, creatives and academics. The 6th Volume’s exhibition and three volume publication is Katrín’s attempt to correct and continue the listing of contemporary art contributors.
A special thanks to Dan Meththananda for editing and insight, Bergþóra Ægisdóttir for providing an customized ancient greek translation for artist-initiatives, and Karl Tryggvason for feedback and support.
