When the Breakbeat.is team approached me to curate a retrospective exhibition accompanying their publication, I could not resist. Through it’s monthly club events, weekly radio shows and artistic contribution to Icelandic Airwaves Festival, the Breakbeat.is boys had a significant effect on the Icelandic music scene. Sadly, the publication marked an end of an era, wrapping up a 12 year history of promoting drum & bass, hardcore and jungle music events. The posters, flyers and other graphic material commissioned and displayed in the book and at the exhibition were made by what came to be some of Iceland’s most prominent graphic designers. Hence, the Breakbeat.is boys did not only create a platform for electronic music debuts, but provided young visual artists with an opportunity expose their work and test their ideas on the streets of Reykjavík. I applaud you Breakbeat.is, the pleasure was all mine.
